What I do
I manage the firm’s information and general systems. I have two staff members in my team and we work closely with everyone in the firm.
What I like about my work
I enjoy the challenging nature of my role. It’s busy, constantly evolving and requires me to adapt quickly to meet the needs of the firm. It’s great to work for a firm that is committed to technology and doing things right.
What I’ve done in the past
I’ve been passionate about technology since an early age. I first got involved in the IT industry when I was studying at Otago University. I held a variety of part time jobs ranging from general computer support to computer cabling and some web design work.
Upon graduating, I took a job with the Ministry of Health and then joined Anderson Lloyd in 2001 as Systems Assistant. Within 3 months of joining, the firm physically merged with Caudwells, which was a huge first project. My role then evolved into more of a Systems Administrator function. I was promoted to the position of Systems Manager in 2005 and then General Manager – Systems in early 2006.
My approach to working with my clients
My approach is to always strive to ensure that staff and partners at the firm are happy and satisfied with our service. It's about delivering good solutions and service to our staff and Partners and, therefore, our clients.
What I enjoy at work
I enjoy the environment. I like the people and the easygoing nature of the firm (compared to other corporate environments). The firm is always moving forward with a variety of initiatives – I love the challenges these projects pose.
What I enjoy outside of work
I enjoy spending those quieter moments in life relaxing on the deck in Macandrew Bay in Dunedin, reading and occasionally doing a little bit of gardening. I enjoy meeting new people and really getting to know them. I love to discuss points of view. I’m a pretty philosophical person and enjoy learning new things through these conversations.
I also enjoy sailing and skiing – although I don’t get out on the harbour and to the mountains as much as I used to.
What I enjoy about living in the South Island
Originally from Auckland, I’m still reminded of the differences between the “big smoke” and the South Island. I love the people who are open and take the time to talk to you. The environment is great too, I don’t think I’ll ever take it for granted. I enjoy travelling to other parts of the South Island and make the most of living in such a beautiful part of the world.
