What I like about my work

I really enjoy the multidisciplinary nature of my practice. I work closely with landscape architects, ecologists, traffic engineers, planners and a whole raft of other experts depending on the particular project I am involved in. I enjoy being able to see the results of my work and getting out from behind my desk to spend time on site.

What I’ve done in the past

I started out in 1996 working in the resource management team of a large national law firm in Auckland, before moving to another national firm in Christchurch. I then headed to London and got a job at Freshfields, focusing on environmental risks arising from large-scale commercial transactions.

I joined Anderson Lloyd in February 2003. The market leading reputation of the resource management team and the opportunity to focus on South Island issues were what attracted me to the firm.

My approach to working with my clients

I would like to think I am fairly down to earth. I try to cut through the legalese and talk straight to my clients. A lot of them are developers and want lawyers who talk strategy and focus on commercial outcomes.

I always think about how to get the best result for each of my clients, exploring the different options and being creative. I focus on putting together the right team of experts, where a multi-disciplinary approach is needed for a particular project. It’s important to me to get my clients the outcome they’re looking for.

What I enjoy at work

The people at Anderson Lloyd, the collegial working environment and the high quality of the resource management work.

What I enjoy outside of work

Anything to do with mountains.  I have been a (largely social) downhill ski-racer for some years now.  I also enjoy snowboarding, ski touring, nordic skiing and rock climbing, as well as pottering about with my husband and two children on our lifestyle block on the Canterbury Plains.

What I enjoy about living in the South Island

The Southern Alps, particularly the spectacular view of the mountains from my office window.
