What I like about my work

I really enjoy getting to grips with transactions, solving the problems that crop up along the way, and getting things done. I'm very much an action-based person and love to get my teeth stuck into projects. I like the fact that my work in property development results in tangible outcomes and physical changes.

What I've done in the past

Being a lawyer runs in the family, so I guess that it's in the blood. I joined Anderson Lloyd as a summer clerk in the 1999 intake after graduating from university and have developed my legal knowledge and skills through experience. There is no better place to practice in the South and I have no desire to practice anywhere else but here. In fact, when I went on my OE, I didn't want to do the same thing in a different place, like London. I kept away from law and used the time to experience other cultures. I ended up living in Argentina and travelling around South America.

My approach to working with my clients

I am down to earth and like to get things done for my clients, so I proactively ensure timeframes are adhered to. I really enjoy the client interaction and think that the right personality fit is one of the most important aspects of a client relationship. I like to help my clients turn their visions into reality by making it happen legally. I am pragmatic and organised, so I help my clients to focus on key milestones within transactions.

What I enjoy at work

I like the variety of the work that I do and the fact that the team I work in is dynamic.

What I enjoy outside of work

I love good food and wine, and sharing them with friends and family. I am interested in the Arts, especially singing and musical theatre. I like to walk and garden and I volunteer in a few Community Service projects.

What I enjoy about living in the South Island

I like living here as my roots are most definitely in the South Island. I have a real sense of belonging, as my great, great grandfather was the first Magistrate in the Otago goldfields. I also value the lifestyle balance that we have here, the straightforwardness of the locals and the beautifully crisp, cold winter days.
