What I like about my work
I love the fact I get to deal with a wide variety of people, including other specialists such as planners and engineers. I also enjoy learning about how my clients' businesses operate, helping them to get their projects off the ground, and seeing the tangible results of my work.
What I've done in the past
I worked for the Department of Conservation in Te Anau while I was at university. This inspired me to become an environmental lawyer. I started out working as a legal editor at Butterworths in Wellington before taking my first environment related job at Hurunui District Council, where I worked on their District Plan review. After two years I moved to a Christchurch-based law firm, and then joined Anderson Lloyd's Dunedin office in 1999. I moved to the Christchurch office in 2001.
My approach to working with my clients
I like to get to know my clients and how their businesses work up-front. I then work alongside them to guide them through the consenting process. I make this process smooth by maintaining positive relationships with the consenting authorities but, when I need to, I don't hesitate to fight to get my clients the results they are looking for.
What I enjoy at work
I really like the people I work with and the variety of projects I work on. I get to deal with some really challenging issues.
What I enjoy outside of work
I'm a mum to two young children and we run a sheep farm in North Canterbury so that takes up a lot of my time. Prior to having children I used to tramp, kayak, cycle and do a bit of multi-sport, but not any more!
What I enjoy about living in the South Island
The space! And the definite change in the seasons. The scenery is stunning and the recreation opportunities are endless. I also enjoy living on a farm and working in town.
