What I like about my work

I work with some great clients who are going places. I enjoy working alongside them to solve their problems (rather than looking to find problems). It's great to overcome challenges and see clients get the outcomes they're looking for.

What I've done in the past

I spent from 1990 to 1993 working for Phillips Fox in Wellington, doing personal client and property work. I then moved to the UK for five years, living in both Cambridge and London, where I was an in-house counsel for Philips Electronics UK Limited, a subsidiary of Royal Philips Electronics NV, one of the world's largest electronics companies. I really enjoyed this role, which spurred my interest in the legal issues around technology and intellectual property.

I joined Anderson Lloyd in 1998, upon my return to New Zealand, and became a partner in 2002.

My approach to working with my clients

I make sure I know what my clients want to achieve and then work with them to get those results. I like to understand their business and where they are going. I also try to make working with a lawyer an enjoyable and positive experience.

What I enjoy at work

I enjoy being part of a great team of specialists who, together, can provide clients with the full range of services. I also enjoy my role as a Partner and being involved in the running of a business.

What I enjoy outside of work

I am a novice mountain-biker – very enthusiastic, but not that skilled. I play rather bad golf, and I run, walk and go to the gym for general fitness.

I like heading into the bush, or to the beach. And I have always loved reading. We also enjoy spending time with friends and family.

What I enjoy about living in the South Island

The space! I also like the absence of haste, the mountains, the West Coast, the Abel Tasman National Park, and the fact all my family and my in-laws live here too.
